Dickey was an Academic All-Southeastern Conference in 1995-6 and Academic
All-American in 1996 at Tennessee, and was drafted in the first round of the 1996
MLB draft. It was discovered by a Rangers’ team doctor that Dickey was missing
the ulnar collateral ligament on his right arm. According to experts, that should
have prevented him from doing simple things such as carrying groceries, turning
a doorknob, or driving.
Despite this obstacle, Dickey is continuing on his journey. He has been on the disabled list twice for a strained back and has to fight hard to keep himself on the roster and moving up the organization. |
